Someone please help me! I know Tina had released a live dvd of In The Red in the UK. It's available online at amazonuk. But, I have been told that I wont be able to play it here in the US. Something to do with the regions. Does anyone know anything about that?... I really really really really really want this DVD!...
thanks bunches...
hi there!
i'm not sure if there's a region free version of Tina's Live DVD out there, but the version i have (purchased at Tina's show) is encoded with a region code as well.
what you might want to find out is whether you have a dvd player that is region-free. (i picked up a cheap one from Costco) your computer dvd drive may have the capacity to play DVDs from any region too... if it's not, there are softwares that can make it happen.
in short, get the DVD and worry about the rest later ;)

There is a Region-Free version. My friend in England, Paul, kindly bought me a copy last September for my birthday. It's clearly marked region-free on the back.

There's a difference between the Region code that each continent has and the formats that the different countries use. The US and Japan for example use a format called NTSC; Europe's format is PAL. In general, European players will play either.
I have read in numerous audio-video forums that a lot of the really cheap DVD players at places like WalMart etc. will play PAL discs even though they don't state it anywhere on the box. Sorry I can't recommend a specific brand or model number (maybe someone else can?). You might want to research this a bit on-line.
Speaking personally, because a lot of things come out outside the US that I want to watch, I did a Google search for terms like 'region-free DVD players' or 'all format DVD players' and you will come up with numerous retail sites in the US that sell players that can play anything from anywhere, regardless of format or region code, so you don't need to even worry about that...

Bill,
Do you know where I could purchase the region free copy? Because the only place I can find the DVD is at amazon uk. And it says region 2... My dvd player at home says it will play region "1" and "all". so, im guessing the "all", means a region free version???

I e-mailed my friend and asked where he purchased it from. Should have a reply in a day or so. I looked up the barcode, and the one on mine is the same on the one listed as "Region 2". Do you know the make and model number of your dvd player?

Yes, I'm very aware of the PAL and NTSC difference also. I think that has more to do with either the frame rate, or the picture size. The Region difference, well I need more research into that. LOL

billy,
I dont know the model number of my dvd player. I know it's a panasonic. I can look this evening when I get home from work. On the front page of the manual it says it will play region 1 and all. So, still not sure if it will play region 2... Im probably just gonna have to purchase her dvd and go from there.

some dvd players have built-in capability to play dvds of all-region; however, you may need to change the region code on your dvd player manually in order to play dvds outsides of your player's preset region (yours says region 1 right, hazelida?)
if the player does in fact play "all" as it's suggested, then there should be a page in the manual that tells you the code you should enter in your dvd player that would change its region.
i hope that helps =)
(fyi: the cheapo dvd i have from costco is made by Koss)
ps: i just did a bit of googling, and it appears that there is a region free version of Live In the Red dvd.
maybe buying this version would be less-troublesome:

Ok, I recieved a reply from my friend in England. He said he ordered it from Amazon UK. He remembered not being sure if I'd be able to play it, as it was listed as Region 2. He was surprised when he gave it to me that I told him it stated Region Free on the case.
I'd imagine that the dvd's are Region Free now, and that the Amazon website has just not been updated to say so. I'm also under the impression that since your dvd player states "and all", that it has the capability to do just that. I have an older Panasonic dvd player/recorder, and it clearly states in the manual that it will only play Region 1.
Bottom line, go ahead and order this GREAT dvd. Worst case scenario would be a need to buy a new dvd player. I know these days that every bit of money is valued, but dvd player's are now relatively inexpensive.
Hope everyone's advice has helped. :-)

Good to know! I already placed my order from Amazon uk this afternoon. Yay! If for some reason, it is not region free, then I guess I will be purchasing a new dvd player... Or I can purchase a region free copy of the dvd. I'm very excited about watching it! Thank you all soooo very much for your selfless effort and help... much appreciated.

Hi hazelida, I purchased a DVD player from Target today, it's a Philips model: DVP1013 for $39.99 and it plays PAL and NTSC DVD'S so I guess it's region free it dosent say on the box, there is no region printed on the box either but it works great! :D I popped in Tina's DVD first thing and tried it out.

Just for anyone who might find this helpful, what make and model number is your player? It's kind of unusual for a regular store-bought US player to actually state they play PAL discs, but maybe they've actually started doing something right and joined the rest of the world!

I will have to look when I get home tonight. All I know right off the top of my head is that it's a Panasonic. It came as a surround sound system and holds 5 or 6 discs. My dvd was shipped out yesterday! yay! But, I have never ordered anything from the UK, so it will probably take a while to get to me in the US... I will let ya'll know soon what the model number is...

I have not recieved my Live in the Red dvd yet. So I cannot say, yes it plays just fine. But by reading the manual it says it will play it. So, we'll see... My dvd player is a Panasonic model no. SC-HT670.

So, I recieved the In the Red live dvd yesterday. I went home and tried to play it in my region free panasonic dvd player. AND IT DIDNT WORK! The dvd case says its region free. I think there might be something I need to do with the dvd player to get it to play. Because the menu pops up, but it just wont play. Also, it's in black and white and not full screen. Luckily I was able to play it on my computer at home... Absolutely love the dvd!!!!!!!!!!!! my bottom was numb from sitting at the computer all night watching it...:p but soooooo worth it! Hopefully I can figure out how to play it on the tv. Or I guess I might just have to buy a new dvd player. But, I still dont understand why it wont play :(...

It's because there is a problem with the dvd. I had the same problem with my disc. Sent it to the maker and got it replaced.
Although I don't know what the rules are in the US.

But do you think that's the case of the re-releases? As far as I remember it was only a problem related to the first batch in Denmark. Oughtn't the problems have been ironed out by the later editions and the international releases?!

I wouldn't say it's an international release. It may be. But, I purchased it at amazon.co.uk... It was not available at the us amazon website. It played just fine on my computer. Should I still try to send it back for another???

If it says Tina DICO, it's an international release, as Tina's name in Denmark is Dickow - and the DVD first came out in Denmark.

DVD-Audio discs can contain video but in a different format than normal DVD's (DVD-Video).

Have you yet tried it in another home dvd player? If not, try that. I may have mentioned this before, but my home dvd player (also a panasonic), is not able to play PAL. nor is it capable of anything other than Region 1, but it still plays In The Red just fine, thankfully. :-) Give another home dvd player a shot at it before thinking of returning it. Can't hurt. :-)

I did try to play it in another dvd player at home, and it automatically popped up a box that said it wont play. I really wanna watch it on the big screen tv. But, I guess the computer will do... I dont know if I want to return it and get the same problem, ya know? Maybe I should try to find one that is NTSC??? I dont know...
Not to repeat myself—although that's what I'm-a gonna do—but reading all the back-and-forth comments of frustration, here was my suggestion back on page 1, comment #5:
"Speaking personally, because a lot of things come out outside the US that I want to watch, I did a Google search for terms like 'region-free DVD players' or 'all format DVD players' and you will come up with numerous retail sites in the US that sell players that can play anything from anywhere, regardless of format or region code, so you don't need to even worry about that..."
I'm in the U.S. and I've been happily watching DVDs from the UK, Germany, Japan etc. for years because I've had one of these 'plays-any-region-and-any-format' players. You might not want to buy one just to play one DVD, but in the event you might get other European PAL and/or other region titles in the future, it might be worth ordering one. I have a buddy in Europe who records music stuff on TV for me all the time, and since they're in PAL format, I wouldn't be able to watch those without one of these...

Hi there,
sorry to hear that your player wouldn't play the DVD for you. it must be really frustrating. :(
would you consider trying to rip the DVD using DVD Decrypter (http://www.mrbass.org/dvdrip/) , then burn it onto a blank disc, and try to watch it on the big screen tv again? (i'm not sure if your dvd player supports DVD+R/DVD-R, depending on which disc format you prefer to use) ripping the DVD should remove the region code.
good luck!

I will definetly try that. But I dont think the region code is the problem. I think it's the format. When I burn it onto a blank disc, do I get to chose PAL or NTSC? By the way, thanks!:)

DVD Decrypter will not help, since it will not convert from PAL to NTSC. The best solution if you want to watch on the TV is to get a DVD player that will convert PAL to NTSC. As was mentioned earlier, Philips makes cheap DVD players that will do that. But if quality is a concern, any player from Oppo Digital will give superior results to the Philips.
Also, if your computer has a video output (normally an S-Video connection) you can connect your computer to your TV directly and see if that works.

so... i had totally forgot about the dvd we have in the spare bedroom. so, i put the dvd in, AND IT PLAYED! i was sooo happy! we hooked that dvd player up to the big screen tv and i got to enjoy the entire concert with surround sound! watched it all day saturday!!!!!!!!:D
I received mine as well, but I had a real problem getting the 5.1 sound to work. In fact it wouldn't. No matter what settings I adjusted on either the player or my Yamaha 7.1 Surround Sound amp, Tina's vocals were either barely audible or were very reverby and buried. The guitar was very prominent in the center speaker where you'd think the vocals should be. I haven't had this issue with hundreds of other Suround 5.1 music and movie discs I have, so I don't know what the problem is...but, it still sounded great in stereo coming out of seven speakers!
Now...if I could just locate that darn German TV New Pop Festival broadcast somewhere...
