It's a bit confusing, I know, but while In The Red was in fact my 3rd studio album, it was my debut on the international scene.
It came out in Denmark in the autumn of 2005, in the UK and US in the beginning of 2006 and in Germany, Austria and Switzerland in the autumn of 2006.
I was signed to Sony UK when I recorded In The Red but it was at the time when they were merging with BMG. Just as I finished the recordings the new boss of "Sony BMG UK" decided to drop me but he let me keep the album so I went on to release it on my own label in Denmark and the UK and on licensing deals with Defend Music for America and with Universal Germany for the remaining half of the world.
I picked Chris Potter to produce this album. I knew him mainly for his work with The Verve on "Urban Hymns" and Richard Ashcrofts solo albums and I love his sound. I was curious to see what a guy that has mostly worked with male rock bands would do with my sound. It was a great experience to work with him - he's such a perfectionist and his sound is warm and welcoming.
We recorded at Metropolis in London, december 2004 - febuary 2005, and my band came over from Denmark for the first couple of weeks.
You can watch an introduction to In The Red under "Video" / "Interviews".
In The Red is nearing double platinum in Denmark and won me "Best Singer" at the Danish Music Awards as well as nominations for "Best songwriter" and "Best pop album".
In the UK it was "Album of the week" on BBC's Radio 2.
There are 3 re-recordings of songs from earlier releases on In The Red:
My Mirror is on my very first album, Fuel, from 2001 and Warm Sand and Room With A View are on my second album, Notes, from 2003.
